The New York Knicks have made moves over the weekend to secure the rights to forward Matt Ryan, a free agent they are looking to sign, and Landry Shamet, who was released at the end of training camp due to an injury. Ryan, a 27-year-old player from New Rochelle who has previously played for four NBA teams, was selected by the Westchester Knicks with the first overall pick of the G-League draft. While the Knicks are expected to sign Ryan, they have delayed making it official to help stay under the salary cap.
Shamet suffered a dislocated shoulder earlier in October and was waived by the Knicks. Coach Tom Thibodeau expressed excitement about both Ryan and Shamet, highlighting Ryan’s shooting skills. Ryan has a 41.1 percent shooting percentage from 3-point range in 63 NBA games.
Furthermore, rookie center Ariel Hukporti was given playing time in the second half over Jericho Sims during Monday’s game against the Cavaliers. Hukporti, standing at 6-foot-11, showcased his skills by grabbing two rebounds and blocking a shot in his 12 minutes on the court. Thibodeau explained that the decision to give Hukporti playing time was to try something different against the Cavaliers’ dynamic big men.
Miles McBride, who was on the injury report with a knee issue, scored 14 points in 29 minutes off the bench during the same game. These recent moves and changes in playing time indicate that the Knicks are actively adjusting their roster and rotation as the season progresses.
