Israel’s recent attacks in both northern Gaza and Lebanon have resulted in the deaths of more than 150 people as the humanitarian situation in both places continues to worsen. In Gaza, at least 93 Palestinians were killed when a residential building housing displaced people was flattened by an Israeli attack in Beit Lahiya. The situation in northern Gaza, which has been under siege since October, is particularly dire.
Ceasefire talks have resumed in Qatar, but a breakthrough is not expected. Israel has also moved to halt the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, leaving many in Gaza without a crucial lifeline. Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud reported harrowing scenes from the attacks, with many women and children among those pulled from the rubble severely injured.
In eastern Lebanon, attacks in the Bekaa Valley killed at least 60 people and injured 58. The town of Sahl Allak in Baalbek province saw the highest death toll, with 16 people killed. Lebanese officials described the attacks as the most violent day in Baalbek since the beginning of the aggression. Israeli bombardment in the area has intensified in recent weeks as part of an offensive against Hezbollah.
In Gaza, the death toll from Israeli attacks since October has surpassed 43,000, with over 1,100 people killed during a Hamas-led offensive on Israel. The situation in both Gaza and Lebanon remains dire, with urgent calls for international assistance to address the growing humanitarian crisis.
