The Connecticut Sun have announced that head coach Stephanie White will not be returning in 2025, making them the seventh WNBA team this offseason to have a coaching vacancy. White had a successful two seasons with a regular season winning percentage of .688, but the team felt she was not the one to lead them to a championship after multiple postseason losses in the semifinals.
With major players possibly becoming free agents, including Alyssa Thomas, DeWanna Bonner, and Brionna Jones, the Sun are looking for a new coach to potentially lead a drastically different roster in the upcoming season. Adding to the challenge of finding the right candidate is the fact that other teams like the Indiana Fever, Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks, Dallas Wings, Washington Mystics, and Atlanta Dream are also in search of new coaches this year.
The upcoming season will also see the WNBA draft lottery featuring top prospect Paige Bueckers from UConn, with the Chicago Sky, Los Angeles Sparks, Washington Mystics, and Dallas Wings holding the top picks. As the league continues to see growth in attendance and viewership, the changes in coaching staff across multiple teams set the stage for an exciting and competitive 2025 season in the WNBA.
