New exhibition showcases photographs documenting the impact of climate change

The latest exhibition at the Capa Center in Budapest showcases the stunning photography of Esther Horvath, who documents the human side of climate change research in the Arctic. Through her photos, Horvath sheds light on the tireless work of scientists in Ny-Ålesund, a research village at the forefront of global warming studies since 1963.

Horvath’s photographs capture the dedication and resilience of the researchers, many of whom are women, as they brave the extreme conditions of the Arctic in pursuit of data on climate change. Her work aims to inspire the younger generation to pursue careers in environmental research, showing that even fragile women can contribute to groundbreaking scientific discoveries.

Having photographed 25 Arctic expeditions since 2015, Horvath has been recognized with prestigious awards including the World Press Photo First Prize and the National Geographic Wayfinder Award. Her exhibition, “Night Stars of the Arctic,” is a testament to the ongoing battle against climate change and the human stories behind the scientific data.

Climate change may be measured in numbers and reports, but Horvath’s photography brings a human element to the issue, highlighting the dedication and passion of those working tirelessly to understand and combat the changing climate. The exhibition will be on display at the Capa Center from October 25 to January 31, offering viewers a glimpse into the world of Arctic research and the people who make it possible.
