Three journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike on guesthouses in southeast Lebanon, where they were staying on Friday. The airstrike targeted Hezbollah militant infrastructure, turning media outlets used for covering the war into rubble. The Lebanese health ministry reported over 2,500 killed and 12,000 wounded in the past year, with 1.2 million people displaced, including 400,000 children. In Israel, two people died and seven were injured after a rocket attack from Hezbollah militants in Lebanon. Israel’s air defenses intercepted some of the 45 projectiles fired into Israel, while others fell into open areas. The strikes came after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that Israel had effectively dismantled Hamas and called for a revival of ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas. The offensive in Gaza has killed over 42,000 Palestinians according to local health authorities. The Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the killing of the journalists and called for an independent investigation. Several journalists have been killed since the conflict escalated on October 8, 2023. The Israeli military said the airstrike is under review. Press outlets used by journalists to cover the war were destroyed in the attack, with cars marked “PRESS” left overturned and covered in debris. The situation in the region remains tense, with ongoing violence causing casualties on both sides.
