The NBA’s In-Season Tournament is making a return for its second season, showcasing specially designed courts for the NBA Cup. The league unveiled the new court designs created by artist Victor Solomon, with a more subdued and unique look compared to previous designs. This year, the courts feature three concentric circles representing the three NBA Cup stages, departing from the shaded lanes in the middle.
The tournament will kick off on Nov. 12 with the group stage, leading to single-elimination quarterfinals in December, and culminating in the final four games in Las Vegas. Each team will have its own custom court design tied to their Statement jersey, adding a new element of creativity and uniqueness. The NBA aims to switch up the court designs each season to keep the element of surprise for fans and enhance the viewing experience.
To ensure the courts would pop on television broadcasts, the league utilized innovative technology, including drones for real-time views, vinyl printouts for broadcast tests, and simulations in the video game NBA2k. The courts are meant to serve as a visual cue to viewers that they are watching an NBA Cup game, not just a regular-season match. The NBA’s commitment to evolving and improving the tournament experience is evident in their meticulous attention to detail and willingness to take creative risks. Fans can expect a visually engaging and dynamic display throughout the NBA Cup season.
