Brooklyn high school hazing incident leads to arrest and charges for three teens

Three students from the junior varsity football team at James Madison High School in Brooklyn were charged in a disturbing hazing incident that led to the cancellation of the rest of the school’s football season. The incident involved two 14-year-olds and a 13-year-old allegedly holding down and inappropriately touching a 14-year-old teammate on October 16.

The NYPD and Department of Education officials have taken action, with the three teens being charged with forcible touching and unlawful imprisonment. New York City public schools press secretary Nathaniel Styer stated that bullying, harassment, and hazing have no place in schools, and the school has taken immediate steps to address the situation.

Last year, James Madison High School’s football program faced scrutiny when former JV football coach Nicholas Nugent was arrested for allegedly slamming a teen’s head into the wall. Nugent’s case is still pending.

The three teens involved in the hazing incident have been charged as juveniles, and their names have not been released due to their age. The school is providing support to students and parents while an investigation into the incident continues.
