A chaotic scene unfolded in Bethpage on Sunday when a group of teenagers crashed a BMW into a home, leading to a bizarre altercation involving a Long Island man and a firefighter. The incident occurred on North Windhorst Avenue, with the 16-year-old driver losing control of the vehicle and causing significant damage to the house. Thankfully, no one was injured in the crash.
Upon arriving at the scene, the Bethpage Fire Department encountered a 52-year-old firefighter who was then confronted by 70-year-old Salvatore Conte. An altercation ensued, during which Conte allegedly pushed the firefighter, resulting in an injury to his hip. When police attempted to arrest Conte, he resisted, leading to officers using a Taser to subdue him. Conte was subsequently charged with assault, obstructing governmental administration, and resisting arrest.
The firefighter was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment of his injuries. Conte was scheduled to be arraigned in Hempstead the following day, although information regarding his legal representation was not immediately available. The incident left residents of the area shocked and concerned about the events that transpired, raising questions about the safety and security of their neighborhood.
