UK watchdog recalls over 20 foods due to peanut concerns in food and drink industry

The Food Standards Authority (FSA) has issued a recall for more than 20 dips and seasonings, including Domino’s Pizza’s BBQ dip, over concerns that they may contain undeclared peanuts. The products, produced by FGS Ingredients, may pose a risk to consumers with peanut allergies as the allergen is not listed on the labels. This is the second recall from FGS in recent weeks, with a previous recall in September due to concerns that products containing mustard could also have undeclared nuts.

Despite FGS claiming to have not detected any peanut content or residue in additional testing, the FSA has urged consumers to return the recalled items for a full refund. The affected products are sold under various brand names at different retailers, including Dunnes Store, Favourit, Westmorland Family Butchery, and Domino’s.

The FSA has found that the contaminated mustard ingredients originated from a producer in India and only FGS has been identified as using these ingredients in UK food. The watchdog has stated that point of sale notices will be displayed at stores where the products were sold, alerting consumers to the potential risk.

The Guardian has reached out to FGS for comment on the latest recall. Consumers are advised to check their pantries for any recalled items and return them for a refund as a precautionary measure to avoid any potential risks associated with undeclared allergens.
