Navy crew identified after jet crashes near Mount Rainier in Washington.

The U.S. Navy identified the two crew members who were aboard a fighter jet that crashed in Washington state as Lieutenant Commander Lyndsay P. Evans and Lieutenant Serena N. Wileman, both from California. The crew members were declared dead after days of searching. Evans was described as a humble yet strong leader, while Wileman was known for her passion and unrelenting smile. The aircraft was part of the Electronic Attack Squadron 130, nicknamed the “Zappers.” The squadron had recently returned from a combat deployment in the Red Sea. The crash occurred near Mount Rainier, and rescue teams spent five days searching for the crew members. The EA-18G Growler aircraft, built by Boeing, costs $67 million and made its first flight in 2006. The squadron has a long history, being commissioned in 1959. The identities of the crew members were released by the Navy following the crash, and they were mourned by their fellow service members. Evans had participated in the all-female Super Bowl flyover in 2023, marking 50 years of women flying in the Navy. The squadron’s history and recent deployments were highlighted in the aftermath of the tragic crash.
