Penny, a 62-year-old mother of two, was reported missing and her body was later found in the Genesee River after a three-day search. The incident was sparked by a routine welfare check that raised suspicions among deputies, leading to a full-scale manhunt.
Investigators have determined that Jamie Busch allegedly strangled her sister and disposed of her body in the river, while also hiding her phones in a dumpster. The motive and cause of death have not been disclosed by authorities. Jamie has been charged with second-degree murder and two counts of tampering with physical evidence. She is currently in police custody at the Monroe County Jail.
The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District, where Jamie worked, has expressed shock and sadness at the news. Superintendent Gene Mancuso stated that they had never encountered such a situation in their district before, but are confident that the community will come together to support one another during this difficult time.
