Israeli forces have been attacking north Gaza since October 6, with an aim to stop Hamas from regrouping. The assault has resulted in at least 87 deaths and many more missing. Civilians have been urged to evacuate to the overcrowded “humanitarian zone” in al-Mawasi, but access to food and essential supplies has been cut off since October 2. The UN has warned that any forcible transfer of the population of north Gaza would be considered a war crime. The conditions in the area are dire, with aid convoys facing restrictions from the Israeli military and hospitals being bombed, leading to critical shortages of medical supplies.
At least 450 people have been killed in north Gaza, with the largest refugee camp in Jabalia being a major target. Despite the challenging circumstances, doctors at the remaining partially functioning hospitals have refused to leave their patients.
