The annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade recently took place in New York City, featuring no prizes, judges, or competition this year. Despite the lack of formal competition, dogs and their owners still dressed up in elaborate costumes and paraded down Avenue A in the East Village. The event, which typically takes place in Tompkins Square Park, was moved due to construction.
Attendees enjoyed sunny weather as they watched the costumed dogs strut their stuff for about an hour-and-a-half. Longtime participant Summer Sparkles from Hells Kitchen was there with her dog April Moon, expressing her love for the event’s festive atmosphere and sense of community support. East Village resident Jennifer Rodstrom and her dog Bagel, dressed as viral hippo Moo Deng, also attended, highlighting the strong bond within the local dog-loving community.
The Tompkins Square Park parade marks the beginning of a season of dog-centric events in the city, including the upcoming “Great PUPkin” parade in Fort Greene Park and the parade in Washington Square Park on October 26th. These events provide a fun and lighthearted opportunity for dog owners to showcase their creativity and celebrate their furry companions.
