Brush Fire in Oakland Destroys Several Homes and Forces Evacuations


Evacuations were ordered for east Oakland residents after a brush fire broke out, burning two homes and threatening several others. Over 80 firefighters and personnel from local fire agencies were fighting the fast-moving fire in the Oakland Hills neighborhood near Interstate 580. The fire spread over 13 acres and burned less than 10 structures, with dozens of homes on Maynard, Sanford, Greenridge, and Canyon Oaks being threatened but not damaged.

Residents in multiple zones were ordered to evacuate immediately, with evacuation points set up at various locations. The fire was moving north and northwest, prompting an evacuation warning for additional zones. Rep. Barbara Lee urged residents to follow evacuation orders and stay safe.
