A 60-year-old man was attacked by a panhandler wielding a pipe in the East Village on Friday, according to the police. The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. at Mee Noodle Shop & Grill on First Ave. The suspect entered the restaurant and began asking for money, but when the victim refused, he pulled out a small pipe from his backpack and struck the man on the head. The victim suffered a deep cut and was taken to Bellevue Hospital for treatment. The attacker fled the scene, and the police are still searching for him.
This incident comes after a similar attack last month, where a man in an “X-Men” T-shirt assaulted a 68-year-old woman with a metal object nearby. The two incidents may be related, but it has not been confirmed. The police are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspect from the most recent attack.
The victim’s identity and connection to the restaurant are still unclear, as is the motive behind the attack. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers to assist in the ongoing investigation. The attacks have raised concerns about safety in the area, prompting a call for increased vigilance and reporting of suspicious activities to prevent further incidents.
