A strange scene unfolded at the World’s Fair Marina pier in Queens on Friday when an unoccupied car sank to the bottom of Flushing Bay. Witnesses speculated that the white vehicle may have been intentionally rolled into the bay, as they saw a man drive the car onto the boat ramp and open the trunk before it went into the water. Harbor units from the NYPD and FDNY responded to the scene after receiving 911 calls about the incident. Divers searched the area but found no one in or around the car. It remains unclear whether the car was left in neutral accidentally or purposely sank into the water. The car did not have a boat trailer attached, and witnesses noted that it was positioned nose-first towards the water, unlike vehicles used for towing boats. An investigation is ongoing to determine how the car ended up in the water. Police and firefighters worked to retrieve the submerged vehicle from the bay, as the initial tow truck sent to the scene was not strong enough to pull it out. The incident at the World’s Fair Marina pier has left bystanders puzzled and authorities working to unravel the mystery of the sunken car.
