New York Yankees reliever Ian Hamilton has been officially ruled out for the remainder of the postseason after sustaining a left calf injury in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series. Hamilton was replaced on the ALCS roster by Mark Leiter Jr. and will not be eligible for the World Series roster if the Yankees advance. While Hamilton wasn’t a top choice for manager Aaron Boone, his absence leaves a gap in the bullpen depth. The Yankees are now relying on Leiter, who has struggled since being acquired from the Cubs, with a 4.98 ERA in 21 outings. The team may avoid using Leiter unless they have no other options. With Luke Weaver and Tommy Kahnle throwing significant pitches in Game 3, the bullpen could be thin for Game 4. Starter Luis Gil’s command issues could lead to a long night for the bullpen. The loss of Hamilton adds to the challenge for the Yankees as they continue their postseason run.
