A man was found dead in a tent in Montana in a case of apparent homicide, initially reported as a bear attack. Dustin Mitchell Kjersem, 35, was identified as the victim. An FWP officer ruled out bear activity and an autopsy confirmed the incident as homicide with multiple chop wounds to the skull. Kjersem was last seen on Oct. 10 and was found by his friend at a campsite. Authorities are seeking information and assistance from the public to solve the case, as no suspects have been identified. Kjersem’s sister described him as a skilled tradesman and loving father and urged the community to help find his killer. The sheriff’s office emphasized the importance of any information, no matter how small, in solving the case and urged people to remain vigilant in the woods. The remote location of the crime scene has made the investigation challenging, but the authorities are determined to bring the perpetrator to justice. Call the sheriff’s office at 406-582-2121 or email detectives@gallatin.mt.gov with any information.
