Limited Sale of Commemorative ‘Stan Lee Way’ Street Signs Announced by DOT to Honor Bronx-Born Comic Book Legend

The New York City Department of Transportation has announced the release of limited edition commemorative “Stan Lee Way” street signs, honoring the legendary comic book writer who grew up in the Bronx. The signs are being sold through the Department of Citywide Administrative Services’ CityStore, with 100 signs available in “Authentic Green” and 50 signs in a special “Comic Book Edition” for $75 each. This release comes after a portion of University Avenue in the Bronx was co-named “Stan Lee Way” in 2021 in honor of the creator of iconic superheroes like Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, and The X-Men.

NYC DCAS Commissioner Louis A. Molina praised Stan Lee as a cultural icon whose stories have captivated audiences and inspired belief in the heart of a hero. Lee’s impact on the comic book world is immeasurable, as he revolutionized the industry by developing complex characters with relatable flaws and layered plot lines. Born and raised in the Bronx, Lee attended DeWitt Clinton High School before starting his career in comics in 1941.

The signs are a unique opportunity for fans of Stan Lee and comic book enthusiasts to own a piece of history and pay tribute to a true master of storytelling. With only a limited number available, those interested are encouraged to purchase their commemorative sign through the CityStore before they sell out.
