Mitzi Gaynor, the legendary dancer and actor known for her role as Nellie Forbush in the 1958 film “South Pacific,” has passed away at the age of 93. Her managers confirmed that she died of natural causes in Los Angeles.
Gaynor had a remarkable career that spanned eight decades, with appearances in films, television, and on stage. While she starred in several notable films such as “We’re Not Married!” and “There’s No Business Like Show Business,” she is best remembered for her performance in “South Pacific,” for which she received critical acclaim.
Despite her success in the film industry, Gaynor shifted her focus to television and later reinvented herself as a performing entertainer. Alongside her husband and manager Jack Bean, she toured with her own musical revue, becoming the highest-paid female entertainer in Las Vegas.
Born Francesca Marlene de Czanyi von Gerber in Chicago in 1931, Gaynor grew up in a musically inclined family and started singing and dancing at a young age. She recalled a memorable stage debut at the age of 7, which ultimately led her to pursue a career in entertainment.
