An NJ Transit operator lost their life and nearly two dozen passengers were injured after a train hit a tree early Monday morning in Burlington County. The River LINE train was traveling from Trenton when the accident occurred, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries for 23 of the 42 people on board. The front window of the train was completely smashed, and the train operator’s identity has not been disclosed.
NJ Transit police are investigating the incident, and Governor Phil Murphy has been briefed, offering prayers for those affected. A press conference has been scheduled for Monday morning, and River LINE service has been suspended between Florence and Trenton with substitute bus service provided.
One passenger described the crash as resembling a scene from a movie, with a “gigantic tree” blocking the tracks and causing injuries among passengers. This tragic incident has left the community shaken, with one individual losing their life and many others experiencing the frightening aftermath of the collision.
