Lee Corso, a long-time staple on ESPN’s “GameDay” broadcast, has been absent for the second week in a row due to health reasons. Host Rece Davis confirmed that Corso has been under the weather for the past couple of weeks and was unable to join the show. Fans missed seeing Corso pick winners and wear the heads of various football mascots.
Despite Corso’s absence, the show went on with Davis expressing hope that Corso would return soon and jokingly mentioned Corso’s regard for his friend The Duck. Corso previously stated that “GameDay” broadcasts at Oregon’s site in Eugene were his favorite due to the enthusiastic crowd and love for The Duck mascot. This weekend, the show was back in Eugene ahead of the Oregon-Ohio State game.
While Oregon has been successful with quarterback Dillon Gabriel and running back Jordan James, Ohio State has a strong defense that has not allowed more than 14 points in a game this season. Next week, “GameDay” will head to Austin for the Texas-Georgia SEC showdown, but the return of Corso to the broadcast remains uncertain.
Corso was absent from the previous week’s broadcast in Berkeley as well, which was a Cal-Miami game. This marks the first time in over three decades that “GameDay” has been missing Corso, who has been a beloved figure on the show. Fans are eagerly awaiting his return.
