New England Patriots safety Jabril Peppers has pleaded not guilty to assault, strangulation, drug possession, and other charges following his arrest over the weekend. Police were called to a disturbance at his home where he allegedly attacked his girlfriend. He was arrested at the scene and denied putting his hands on her but admitted to arguing with her. Police found cocaine in the home.
Peppers, who turned 29 last Friday, appeared in court and his attorney stated there was evidence that questioned the allegations. He posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court again in November. Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said the team was aware of the situation and Peppers would be allowed at team facilities for the time being.
Despite the allegations, Mayo stated that they do not have enough information to prevent Peppers from being in the building, as the situation is still unfolding. Peppers, a team captain, has been with the Patriots for three seasons and signed a contract extension earlier this summer.
Peppers, who was inactive for the team’s recent game due to a shoulder injury, has previously played for the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants. He played college football at Michigan. The case is ongoing, with Peppers maintaining his innocence as the legal process continues.
