Israel attacks Beirut and Hezbollah targets Haifa with rockets on the eve of October 7th

On the eve of Oct. 7, Hezbollah rockets wounded at least 10 people in Haifa, Israel, while Israel launched airstrikes on Beirut. This occurred one year after a Hamas attack that sparked a crisis in the Middle East. Israel intercepted rockets fired from Lebanon and also downed projectiles near Tiberias. Additionally, Israel targeted Beirut’s southern suburbs, where Hezbollah is located. The ongoing conflict has resulted in over 1,500 deaths in Beirut. The U.S. helped evacuate around 90 people from Beirut to Istanbul amid the deteriorating situation.

The conflict between Israel and its enemies, including Hamas and Hezbollah, has escalated following the Oct. 7 attack by Hamas, which killed over 1,200 people. Israel responded with military strikes on Gaza, resulting in thousands of Palestinian casualties. The U.S. is working to negotiate a cease-fire to prevent further escalation and potential regional conflict in the Middle East.

Israel commemorated the anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack with solemn memorials. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog led ceremonies to honor the victims of the attack. The conflict between Israel and its adversaries continues to intensify, raising concerns of further violence and displacement of civilians in the region.
