Voters in Michigan are motivated by not only what their candidate can do if elected president, but also by fear of what the opponent might do if elected. Supporters of Donald Trump at a rally in Saginaw fear a Kamala Harris presidency would bring communism, open borders, and economic decline. They believe Trump is for the people and will lead the country in the right direction. Conversely, Harris supporters fear a second Trump presidency would result in attacks on abortion rights, loss of freedoms, and the implementation of Project 2025, which could impact women’s reproductive rights and healthcare. They believe Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, are disqualifying and fear the power he would have with his followers if re-elected. Healthcare concerns, prescription costs, and access to medication are also key issues for some of Harris’ supporters. Each group expressed strong opinions based on their fears and beliefs about the future of the country.
