Verdugo’s clutch single helps Yankees secure 6-5 victory over Royals in Game 1 of ALDS

The New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals 6-5 in Game 1 of the ALDS on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. Alex Verdugo came through with the game-winning RBI single in the seventh inning. Despite struggling in recent months, Verdugo proved himself with a 2-for-3 performance.

Gerrit Cole had a tough outing, giving up four runs in five innings, but the Yankees offense did enough to secure the win. Gleyber Torres hit a two-run home run to give New York the lead, but the Royals quickly responded with a two-run homer of their own.

The game remained tied until the sixth inning when Austin Wells drove in the tying run. Giancarlo Stanton had a chance to give the Yankees the lead, but was thrown out at first.

The Yankees bullpen held strong, with Clay Holmes, Tommy Kahnle, and Luke Weaver combining for 3.2 scoreless innings to secure the victory.

This win gives the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the ALDS and shows that they have the potential to make a deep playoff run. For more on the Yankees and their postseason journey, visit AMNY.com.
