Ukrainian forces shot down a Russian warplane in Ukraine’s east near the city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk region on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of five civilians in the country’s south and east from Russian shelling. Russian forces claimed to have made gains in Ukraine’s east by capturing the village of Zhelanne Druge in Donetsk region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his “victory plan” to be presented at the upcoming meeting of the Ramstein group of nations.
In response to the escalating conflict, nine people were wounded when a Ukrainian drone struck a passenger bus in Horlivka, and Russia launched three guided missiles and 13 attack drones at Ukraine overnight into Saturday. Ukrainian prosecutors were investigating allegations that Russian forces executed four Ukrainian prisoners of war. Meanwhile, Russian prosecutors called for a seven-year sentence for a US citizen accused of fighting as a mercenary in Ukraine against Russia.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, with both sides continuing to engage in military actions resulting in civilian casualties and territorial gains. The international community, led by Ukraine’s partners in the Ramstein group, is closely monitoring the situation and working towards a just end to the conflict to stop Russian aggression.
