‘Saturday Night Live’ parodies JD Vance and Tim Walz’s mostly polite VP debate

The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” featured a spoof of a fictional vice presidential debate between Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The cold open began with Maya Rudolph as Kamala Harris and Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff watching the debate between Bowen Yang’s Vance and Jim Gaffigan’s Walz. The sketch poked fun at Vance’s past controversial comments about women and Walz’s mistaken remarks about being in Hong Kong during the Tienanmen Square Massacre. Despite the comedic jabs, the sketch highlighted the perceived civility and cordiality between the two candidates during the actual debate. The characters of Vance and Walz even found common ground and reached out to each other in a gesture of reconciliation. The sketch also featured former SNL cast member Dana Carvey as Joe Biden, adding more humor to the parody. The show is set to return on October 12 with Ariana Grande as host and Stevie Nicks as musical guest. The satirical take on the debate provided a lighthearted and entertaining commentary on the current political landscape.
