A municipal court in Ohio has declined to issue arrest warrants for former President Donald Trump or Senator JD Vance after a nonprofit sought to file charges against them for making false claims about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield. The court found no cause for the arrest warrants, but the matter has been referred to the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office for further investigation. The claims made by Vance and Trump about Haitian immigrants abducting and eating dogs and cats have been debunked by local and state officials. However, the situation has led to bomb threats and poor school attendance in Springfield, a city of 60,000 residents in central Ohio. The nonprofit organization that filed the charges, the Haitian Bridges Alliance based in San Diego, advocates for migrants and immigrants, particularly those in the Black and Haitian communities. The organization is represented by former federal prosecutor Subodh Chandra, who is now an attorney in Cleveland. The claims made by Vance and Trump have sparked national media attention and have caused distress in the Springfield community.
