The South Carolina fire department is grieving the loss of Chief Chad Satcher and volunteer firefighter Landon Bodie, who were killed while responding to Hurricane Helene. The two were working for the Saluda County Fire Service when a tree fell on their fire engine. Bodie, 18, was a recent high school graduate who was passionate about agriculture and helping his community. Satcher, 53, had been with the department for 35 years and was highly respected within the firefighting community. He was dedicated to his job and had received multiple awards for his service. He was also a devoted churchgoer, husband, and father.
Satcher’s wife, Summer, asked for prayers during the time when her husband and Bodie were missing, and later shared the heartbreaking news of Satcher’s passing. The community has come together to show support and comfort during this difficult time. Both men will be remembered for their bravery, selflessness, and dedication to their work. Memorial donations can be made to the South Carolina State Firefighters Foundation in their honor. The fire department expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support and asked for continued prayers for the families as they begin to heal from this tragic loss.
