An 18-year-old New Jersey high school student, Andy Cardenas, was arrested after a camera he allegedly planted inside a mall bathroom was found with footage of dozens of women and four minors using the restroom. A woman discovered the hidden device in a family restroom at JC Penney in Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City and turned it over to authorities. Investigators found disturbing footage of unsuspecting victims from various restrooms, including at least two appearing to be private residential bathrooms. The camera contained videos of women, minors, and even a couple engaging in sexual acts.
The footage also showed Cardenas setting up the hidden camera in the JC Penney bathroom, which was critical in his arrest. The prosecutor’s office stated that they do not know how long the scheme had been going on, as the footage did not have dates or timestamps. Images of four unidentified bathrooms were released to seek the public’s help in identifying their locations.
Cardenas has been charged with invasion of privacy and is due back in court on October 22. The case has raised concerns about privacy and security in public restrooms, prompting authorities to investigate further and ensure the safety of mall patrons. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious activities to prevent similar violations of privacy in the future.
