The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) is once again distributing millions of at-home COVID-19 test kits across the nation in partnership with the White House and the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR). Residents can order up to four rapid test kits at no cost through COVIDTests.gov to enhance access to testing as cases continue to be monitored.
In New York City, where COVID-19 trends are closely monitored, the distribution of these test kits comes at a crucial time. NYC Health provides up-to-date data on daily case counts, hospitalizations, and death rates by borough, while New York State tracks positive test rates, hospitalizations, and vaccination coverage statewide.
Since the program’s launch in 2021, around 900 million test kits have been distributed to households nationwide, with shipments typically arriving within 1.2 days. Each residential address can request up to four tests for free. The most recent distribution began in late September 2024, allowing U.S. households to order four free rapid antigen COVID-19 tests shipped directly from USPS at no cost.
This initiative aims to provide easy access to testing and help control the spread of the virus. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to order their free tests and stay informed about their COVID-19 status.
