YES and MSG Networks are set to launch the Gotham Sports App, offering New York sports fans access to the Yankees, Knicks, Nets, and all area NHL teams in one service. The joint venture between the two networks, called Gotham Advanced Media and Entertainment (GAME), will allow fans to see all six teams, including the Rangers, Islanders, and Devils, under one roof.
The app will be priced at $41.99 per month or $359.99 per year, offering a more affordable option for fans who do not have cable. The Mets and SNY are not included in the app, as they do not have a direct-to-consumer product. The Gotham Sports App will only be available to fans in the cable footprint of YES and MSG, which includes New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
The move towards the app is part of the re-bundling of services in response to the decline in cable subscribers that have traditionally been a key source of revenue for regional sports networks. While ESPN, Fox Sports, and TNT Sports have teamed up for a national version called Venu Sports, Gotham offers fans the flexibility to subscribe to either MSG+ or YES individually at regular prices.
The launch of the Gotham Sports App comes at a time when sports fans are increasingly looking for more affordable and convenient ways to access their favorite teams. With the app set to debut before the start of the Knicks and Nets’ seasons, fans can look forward to a seamless and comprehensive viewing experience for all their favorite New York sports teams.
