The city of Uvalde, Texas released a trove of records related to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in May 2022, including body camera footage, 911 calls, and text messages. This release came as part of a legal case brought by media outlets. The shooting, which resulted in the deaths of 19 fourth graders and two teachers, was the worst mass shooting at an educational institution in Texas history. The Texas Department of Public Safety is facing a lawsuit from news organizations requesting additional records, despite a judge ruling in their favor. Law enforcement response to the shooting has been heavily criticized for waiting 77 minutes to confront the gunman, as shown in surveillance footage. Officers were seen in the footage walking back and forth in the hallway, communicating with each other, but not entering the classrooms where the shooting was taking place. The release of additional records related to the shooting is pending while the matter is under appeal.
