A Facebook post claiming that Joe Biden’s impeachment trial began in March 2024 is false. In December 2023, the House of Representatives authorized an impeachment inquiry into Biden, but this does not mean he is facing an impeachment trial. The inquiry is to determine whether there is enough evidence to warrant impeachment. Republicans have accused Biden of benefiting from his son’s foreign business dealings, but no evidence of wrongdoing has been produced. If the House decides to move forward, the Judiciary Committee will draft articles of impeachment, which must then be approved by a simple majority vote in the full House. The Senate would then hold an impeachment trial, where a two-thirds majority vote is needed to convict and remove the president from office. Three U.S. presidents have been impeached, but none were convicted in the Senate. Claims that Biden has been impeached in the past have been debunked. There are no credible reports of an impeachment trial against Biden in March 2024.
