Protesters decry Chancellor Banks for tolerating openly accepted antisemitism in NYC schools

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the Brooklyn Museum to condemn antisemitism in public schools, accusing Chancellor David Banks of inaction. The rally was organized after reports of rampant antisemitism at a Brooklyn high school triggered concerns. Protesters demanded action to protect Jewish students and criticized Banks for not addressing the issue effectively. Despite Banks unveiling a plan focusing on education, safety, and engagement to target hate within schools, the prejudice continues, especially in Brooklyn. One Jewish senior shared his experiences of biased information in class and teachers expressing support for Hezbollah. The retired superintendent of District 19 accused Banks of malpractice for neglecting his responsibilities. The rally was organized by End Jew Hate and followed a lawsuit filed by a Brooklyn teacher alleging mistreatment of Jewish students and staff. Despite the city DOE investigating claims of antisemitism at Origins High School in Sheepshead Bay, no evidence has been found yet. Anti-protesters also attended the rally, holding signs supporting teachers and criticizing the NYCPS Alliance. A brief confrontation occurred between the groups. The protesters urged Banks to take immediate action and address the rising antisemitism in New York City public schools.
