The Seattle Kraken have made a trade with the New York Rangers, sending forward Alex Wennberg in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2024 and a fourth-round pick in 2025. Seattle will retain 50 percent of Wennberg’s salary in the deal. Wennberg, a veteran second-line center, has spent time with multiple NHL teams over his career and is known for his versatility on the ice.
After a successful playoff run in 2023, the Kraken have struggled this season and currently sit fifth in the Pacific Division. Wennberg’s move to the Rangers will see him slot in as their No. 3 center, providing depth and stability in the lineup. With Seattle covering half of his salary, the Rangers still have cap space to potentially add more players to the roster.
The Rangers may be looking to add a top-six winger or a depth defenseman in addition to Wennberg. They still have their first-round picks for the next two years, giving them flexibility in the trade market. The addition of Wennberg gives the Rangers a solid presence at center and allows them to focus on filling other holes in their lineup. It will be interesting to see how Wennberg’s skills and experience contribute to the Rangers’ success moving forward.
