Brazil secured a spot in the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup final on Wednesday after defeating Mexico 3-0. Adriana Leal and Antonia both scored first-half goals for Brazil, while Yasmin added another in the second half. Mexico was down to 10 players after Nicolette Hernandez received a red card in the 29th minute.
Mexico had previously caused an upset by defeating the United States 2-0 in the group stage, marking only the second time the US had been beaten by Mexico in 43 matches. Mexico then went on to eliminate Paraguay in the quarterfinals. Brazil, on the other hand, had a dominant performance against Argentina, winning 5-1.
The tournament, the first women’s Gold Cup, aimed to provide teams in the region with valuable competition. The United States, Canada, Brazil, and Colombia, who all participated in the tournament, will also be competing in this summer’s Olympics.
Brazil will now face the winner of the match between the United States and Canada in the Gold Cup final to be held at San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium on Sunday evening. The game is set to be a thrilling one as both teams will be seeking to secure the Gold Cup title.
