Man Pretending to be a Priest Steals $900 from Bedroom in NYC Church

A visiting priest in Queens was duped by a burglar posing as a fellow clergyman, who made off with nearly $1,000 in cash. The incident took place at the American Martyrs Roman Catholic Church in Hollis Hills on Sunday afternoon. The thief convinced the 63-year-old priest that he was also a man of the cloth visiting from another country, gaining access to the rectory where he stole the money from the bedroom. The conman then fled in a dark-colored sedan, leaving the real priest shocked and out of pocket. Police have released images of the suspect and are asking for the public’s help in identifying him. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers. The incident serves as a reminder to always be cautious and verify the identity of individuals claiming to be in positions of trust, even in a place of worship. Such brazen acts of deception are a stark reminder of the need for vigilance and awareness in all interactions, to prevent falling victim to scams and thefts. The church community is rallying behind the victim, offering support and solidarity in the wake of this unfortunate incident.
