A 65-year-old woman barricaded herself and threatened staff at Luisenhospital in Aachen, Germany, on Monday. Heavily armed police arrived and shot and injured her in order to end the dangerous situation. The woman had a gun, threatened employees, and set off pyrotechnics inside the hospital. The site and surrounding area were evacuated, with almost 400 patients and staff in the hospital at the time. Surrounding rooms were evacuated and special forces were called to the scene. By around 11 p.m. local time, police managed to remove the woman from the hospital, bringing an end to the situation that had started several hours earlier.
The woman’s actions had caused a significant disruption to the hospital and put the lives of patients and staff at risk. The swift response by police in shooting and injuring her was deemed necessary in order to protect those inside the hospital and bring a resolution to the dangerous situation.
