In a shocking discovery, eleven emaciated dogs and two malnourished cats were rescued from a squalid Queens home during an NYPD raid that also uncovered a stash of heroin and fentanyl. The Grand Larceny Squad executed a search warrant at the Beach 44th St. house in the Rockaways and found the pets living in deplorable conditions. Some of the dogs, including pit bulls, were found in cages with their ribs visible through their skin.
Homeowner Cory Elder, 43, is under investigation for storing stolen goods and drugs. The police recovered quantities of heroin and fentanyl along with stolen tools and DJ equipment. Additionally, at least one of the dogs had been reported stolen.
The ASPCA has taken in the animals and is evaluating their condition. Elder has been arrested on charges including possession of drugs, possession of stolen property, and animal neglect. His arraignment was pending in Queens Criminal Court. This case highlights the importance of animal welfare and the need for authorities to investigate not just drug-related crimes but also cases of animal neglect. The NYPD’s actions in rescuing these animals from appalling conditions demonstrate their commitment to upholding the law and protecting vulnerable creatures.
