Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger confirmed on Wednesday that the highly anticipated “Moana 2” will hit theaters on November 27. Originally planned as a television series, the movie will follow Moana on a dangerous mission to the far seas of Oceania after receiving a call from her ancestors. The film promises to be an “adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.”
Directed by Dave Derrick Jr., “Moana 2” will feature music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Mark Mancina, and Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa’i. While the voice actors have not been announced, the first film was a massive success, bringing in over $680 million at the global box office and accumulating over 1 billion hours of streams on Disney+. In addition to the new film, Dwayne Johnson is also working on a live-action “Moana” for the company.
“Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui,” Iger said in a statement.
