The jury selection has begun for the manslaughter trial of Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of Ethan Crumbley, the teenager who committed a mass shooting at his high school in Michigan. Ethan took a 9mm semi-automatic handgun to Oxford High School the morning of Nov. 30, 2021, and killed four students and injured seven others. Despite being called into the school over concerns about Ethan’s violent writings and drawings, his parents did not take him home and failed to mention the firearm his father purchased for him just days earlier. Jennifer and James Crumbley were later found and arrested, charged with involuntary manslaughter, making them the first parents to be charged in connection with a mass school shooting in the U.S. The Crumbleys have been in jail for more than two years awaiting trial. If convicted, involuntary manslaughter in Michigan carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Meanwhile, James Crumbley’s trial is set for March. Ethan Crumbley has already pleaded guilty to the massacre and has been sentenced to life in prison.
