The Mayor of New York City, Eric Adams, has raised nearly $725,000 for his legal defense fund over a probe into his 2021 campaign. The fund, which was started in November, has seen strong support with donations from at least 228 individuals. Former Mayor Michael Bloomberg is among the donors, contributing $5,000 to help his embattled successor. The fund was opened after the FBI raided the home of Adams’ top fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, and it became clear that investigators are looking into potential illegal funds from the Turkish government and quid-pro-quo favors in the campaign. Despite the probe, Adams has not been accused of any wrongdoing at this point. The maximum donation of $5,000 has been made by 107 people, including Bloomberg, construction magnate David Mack, and Adams’ former chief of staff Frank Carone. State Rep. Jennifer Rajkumar has also made a significant donation of $2,500. Mayor Adams himself has contributed a mere $120 to the fund. The strong support for the legal defense fund highlights the level of backing and confidence in Adams’ ability to address the ongoing probe into his campaign.
