Anti-Israel protesters rallied in Manhattan on Monday, demanding a cease-fire in Gaza and accusing several businesses and medical centers of supporting “genocide.” The protesters chanted “Shame!” at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and accused it of complicity in the violence. They targeted other establishments and a hospital for their alleged support of “genocide.” The protest turned tense at times, resulting in one arrest of a 16-year-old boy and scuffles with police. The protesters demanded the names of the arresting officers.
Protests also targeted Mt. Sinai Medical Center for “supporting Zionism” and “genocide.” The police made one arrest and had to block entrances to various buildings on the medical center’s campus. The protest also drew condemnation from a 74-year-old Jewish resident who referred to it as “horrific.”
Despite the protests, one resident, who isn’t Palestinian, voiced her support for a cease-fire, saying that the images from Gaza have weighed heavy on her heart. Protests also called Israel a “racist state” and accused them of “genocide.” The protest leader encouraged recruiting family and friends to join future rallies to prove that they don’t support genocide. These anti-Israel rallies have increased in frequency since Hamas attacked Israel in October.
