The new year brought new toll increases for drivers crossing into New York City. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that tolls at the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, as well as the George Washington, Bayonne, and Goethals bridges, would be increasing. The off-peak price is now up to $13.38, and peak hours will be $15.38. The decision for the increase was based on inflation and was approved by the Port Authority board last year.
Many commuters are not happy about the toll hikes, with some saying that they may try to avoid coming into Jersey altogether due to the high toll prices. Others are concerned about the additional congestion pricing that is set to start in the spring. Under congestion pricing, most drivers will have to pay $15 to enter Manhattan south of 60th Street, and larger vehicles like trucks will have to pay up to $36.
It’s important to note that all Port Authority tolls are now cashless, and tolls are only collected when entering New York, not New Jersey.
These toll increases have already sparked controversy and concern among drivers who are facing additional financial burdens while crossing into New York City. With congestion pricing on the horizon, many are worried about the impact that these toll hikes will have on their daily commutes.
