Three-year-old Brayden Smith was tragically killed by a stray bullet from celebratory gunfire in Memphis on New Year’s Eve. He was hit while inside his apartment by a bullet that was believed to have come from a different part of the apartment complex. The Memphis Police received records of over 327 gunshots and about 195 calls of shots fired that night but have yet to identify and apprehend the person responsible for Brayden’s death. The family has created a GoFundMe to help with the funeral expenses in this unimaginably difficult time, which has raised over $2,473.
Memphis Police Assistant Chief Don Crowe emphasized that celebratory gunfire is illegal and leads to tragic events like this, urging people to stop shooting guns. The police department is still investigating the incident and working to bring those responsible to justice. A GoFundMe has been created to help alleviate the financial burden of funeral expenses and provide comfort to Brayden’s loved ones. The family is in need of support during this time of sorrow, and the community is coming together to honor Brayden’s memory and stand together in this difficult time.
