A new NYPD dance team seeks to recruit a diverse roster and intensify training by pitting its members against other teams, including those from the Fire Department and rival squad members from other police departments. The seven-member team has mastered a number of styles including hip hop, salsa and bhangra, and are now searching for new members to compete against other groups.
The group hopes to attract men and women with a love for dance, not just professionals. Formed in 2022, the group rehearsed twice a week at various locations and performs at parades and other events. Members are hoping for a dedicated group with fierce motivation, much like other NYPD sports clubs.
The group, made up of women ages 26 to 42, rehearse steadily and hope to find new recruits willing to withstand the grueling schedule. The team’s leader, Officer Lauren Pagán refuses to beg anyone to join, citing the squad’s high level of commitment.
Although the team has seen some promising recruits join, Officer Pagán and her team are hoping for a dedicated dance group that will command the same respect and admiration as some of the NYPD’s best-known sports teams. They are ready to take on any challenges!
